We offer health professionals and students financial assistance for cancer-related education:

Alan Lomas grant

The Alan Lomas grant provides financial assistance to senior graduates wanting to travel within New Zealand or overseas to study a particular aspect of cancer. The fund also enables foreign cancer experts to visit New Zealand and share their expertise with our professionals.

The fund was established as a permanent memorial to the late Dr Alan Lomas, a devoted and dedicated contributor to medicine and cancer and founder of the Waikato Hospital Radiotherapy Department in 1965.

Student summer scholarship in cancer related medical physics

Are you nearing the end of a physics or maths degree. Are you interested in medical physics.We offer two annual summer scholarships to students at masterate and doctoral levels. You’ll join the medical physics research and development groups at the Waikato University and Waikato Hospital and play an exciting part in their continuing success and progress in the field of radiotherapy dosimetry and treatment planning.

National and overseas grants to attend conferences, courses and seminars

We want the people involved in research and treatment of cancer patients in our region to keep up-to-date with the latest developments and techniques in New Zealand and even more importantly, from overseas. Medical and research professionals living and working within the boundaries of the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Division of the Cancer Society are invited to apply for financial assistance to attend relevant courses, conferences and seminars.

Research into cancer related topics

All research applications must be made in the first instance to the National Office, Cancer Society of NZ Inc, PO Box 12-145, Wellington, for consideration by the National Scientific Research Committee of the Society.
