Help Us

We need your help! Without support from members of the community we are unable to provide the FREE services so vital to people affected by cancer.

All the money raised by the Waikato/Bay of Plenty division stays in this region to help local people affected by cancer. The division also supports a national research pool through an annual levy that in turn benefits all New Zealanders affected by cancer.

You can help support the work of the Cancer Society in many ways:

Make a donation

Every dollar helps! Donations are a vital source of funding for our division so if you're interested in supporting the work of your local Cancer Society you are welcome to make a donation at your local office or through our secure on-line donation form.

Become a volunteer

With only a small number of paid staff much of the work of the division is carried out by volunteers. Just one hour of your time a week can make a big difference to someone affected by cancer.

You could assist with any of the following roles:

  • Driving people to and from appointments
  • Providing support to cancer patients
  • Visiting people affected by cancer in hospital and at home
  • Help with fundraising events (e.g. Daffodil Day)
  • Clerical and administration support

Print out a volunteer application form to become a regular volunteer, sign-up now to help on Daffodil Day or contact us to find out more.

All volunteers must undergo an interview process to ensure that people with cancer are receiving the best possible support and care from Cancer Society volunteers. Once you have completed your volunteer application form and sent it into us a Cancer Society representative will contact you to make a time for an interview at one of our offices. You will then be asked to sign a contract before starting any necessary training for your volunteer role.

Leave a gift in your will

You may consider leaving a gift or bequest to the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Cancer Society in your will. By making a bequest you will help us to continue providing much needed services for people affected by cancer, well beyond your own lifetime - a living legacy!

There are several ways to leave a gift to the Cancer Society in your will. You can:

  • Leave a residue gift. This is the money or assets left over from your estate after it has been divided up among family, friends or others you wish to remember.
  • Leave a nominated percentage. This would be a specified fraction of your total estate.
  • Leave a specific gift. This is a specific amount of money, real estate, bonds, stock or other assets you believe would be useful to the Cancer Society.

You can leave a bequest anonymously if you wish, or you can advise us of your gift. Either way, you can be sure it will be used wisely to help support people affected by cancer.

When making a will or establishing a family trust you should discuss your wish to make a gift to the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Cancer Society with a solicitor or trustee company and talk about possible options.

Contact us to find out more about leaving a gift in your will.

Alternatively contact your solicitor or a trustee company.
